Thus; so. Used to indicate that a quoted passage, especially one containing an error or unconventional spelling, has been retained in its original form or written intentionally.

From:
an email from someone I used to work with:
"... their UK design centre (sic) that produces ..."

This is one of those words that can really demonstrate your intelectual cachet.
